Is American made manga popular in Japan and America?

Well, Marvel superheroes will be getting the anime treatment starting in 2010. Apparently there's a deal that will have Madhouse doing four of them (source here).

If you mean American made comics that go for a "manga style," I believe that Megatokyo is either getting translated into Japanese right now or is going to be. I recall seeing the announcement and then lost track of what was going on with that. There must have been some demand for it since it was picked up over there, though. Enough for an anime? Not at all likely, I'd say.

Morning 2 has serialized a few American manga by Felipe Smith and rem. But Morning 2 is a niche magazine with a small circulation, and it's exceedingly rare. And I've never heard of an American manga-style work being adapted by a Japanese anime studio.

You're right. Who doesn't enjoy noting?

I wouldn't say it's popular, but it does OK in America. Well some of the titles. Many have flopped. Most anime fan don't like it because its "not authentic".

The only one I was ever a fan of was Shutterbox, but Tokyopop cancelled that before it was finished (only published 4 out of the 6 volumes planned). I keep track of the artist, however, so if/when she ever does finish and release it with another company, I'll buy it there.

I can't speak for Japan.

Tokyopop has long hoped they'd be able to turn some of their OEL projects into a foot hold in Japan, and it hasn't really panned out. They've had better luck with Japan-exclusive projects IIRC.

If there is something in the OEL area that might actually stand a chance of both working well in the US and abroad, and I'd put my bet on Nina Matsumoto's "Yokaiden" though that's in part because she's a very talented artist in pretty much any style she applies herself too. It doesn't have any tells that it's OEL really (just like how her Groening-style art is dead on too.) It hinges on Del-Rey getting it out there though.

Personally I will love to see rabQ as a AVO. What, 3 DVRAB like 6 episodes, each one 45 to 65 minutes long. God, here's hoping.

I was plaining to make a OEL manga series. But...Will any of you guys will read it?

I only read one OEL - the sequel to Labyrinth. And Tokyopop keeps pushing the next volume back. I think the movie is popular in Japan (the SE dvd here has a Japanese track on it), so maybe people read this one.

(Please finish it, tokyopop, PLEASE!)

Sweet!

I do have an idea that pretty original and a little personal too.

I hope you don't mind the main character looks like a super sentai guy and the action are over doing it a little.

But I do have a decent story, action/comedy pack? Yes! But have a message that ppl can kind of relate to with the problems and trying to deal with them? Yup-Yup!

I'm hoping my OEL Manga will be soon become an anime series. Here's hoping!!

Hold onto your dreams, but I think you might want to change your definition of "soon." Cartoons take years to get made, and for an anime to be made based on a manga it neeRAB several volumes published in Japan with solid sales nurabers and a built-in fanbase. So start learning Japanese and start drawing, a lot, and get ready for a long and at times frustrating journey.

But please do go ahead and post your art here. I'm sure people would love to see it.

Cool, I'll post my art soon.

I know my work won't be a hit just in one volume. Most likely I need a loooooooooong manga series (Like 10+ volumes) to get known by ppl and slow become an anime series!

But...What are ppl looking for in a manga? With art and story? I need some tips ppl.

Y'know, I thought after Witcrabroadlade, more stuff outside of Japan would be adapted into an anime (unless if you count Hetalia since the creator lives in America), but sadly that hasn't happened yet

Well, thats going to be hard, since:

1) I don't see a lot of OEL manga's in book stores. I do see some, but not a lot.

2) Sadly, I talked to some manga readers and some don't even know what is a OEL manga and some won't read it because it didn't came out in “Japan”.

Its sad to see some ppl don't give things a chance.
