Is America completely riddled with arm waving, god bothering, preachy christians?

I've been posting on this site for just under 2 weeks, and I tend to answer either relationship type questions (I'm married and have been in my relationship for the last 11 years of my life) or computer game/film/music questions (the 2nd, 3rd and 4th loves of my life :D) and I always seem to come across some fanatic thats saying that "jesus will forgive you", or "god will cast you down for doing such a thing".

It's only a very small percentage of the UK's population go to church nowadays. I think due to either being lazy, or there being no proof that any of these mythical beings exist.

Is it just the questions I'm looking at?
In case you hadn't been able to tell, I'm a staunch Atheist.

Unfortunately, it is NOT just the question that you are mentioning... It is disappointing, but America is a very religious country. I live in the Bay Area of California, and in my freshmen biology class in college 26 out of 29 students, when asked, said they do not believe in Evolution, i.e., they take the Bible's teachings over science. We're talking about young, privileged people from a (seemingly) progressive area of the United States.

The biggest problem I have with religious people is that they think they have ALL of the answers to life and death, when they do not.

When we have political leaders and Presidents that would apply fairy tales and fantasy over logic, and rational thought, it is not surprising that the US is a non-secular nation... The microcosm follows the macrocosm...

Yes.

Actually the reason why the UK is so secular is a bit more complicated than that - when at one time only the C of E was legal and so entwined with the state that it became virtually a posh persons' club, of course religion became discredited. Moral: if you want religion to flourish, keep politics out of it at all costs - and that's what the USA did.

If youre with Sky or Virgin, look at the God Channel at about 9pm onward, its really freaky. Its American Christian shows and its really scary to see what they do in these groups. Its just brain washing and spreading hate. I was horrified when I saw it.
Its not just on YA!
Take a look on YouTube for God Camp, thats pretty scary too. They worship a cardboard cut out of George Bush and say they wish Christians were more like extremist muslims.

Lots of us do bother God. However, he's gentle and patient.

Ah, but if they exist, they're not mythical. You can't prove that God does not exist, therefore it is illogical of you to assert so in a logical chain of reasoning.
