Is a week long enough to redye hair? Went from black to medium brown but still to dark.?

Ok so I dyed my hair for the first time at the salon. I wasn't really sure what exact color I wanted. I ended up getting medium brown. My natural hair is black (dark dark brown). The thing is after I got it done I realize that its still too dark. I want it to be more obvious. So I was wondering is a week long enough to redye my hair?

The stylist is almost like a family friend so It only cost me $15 to do it at the salon so $$$ is not an issue
