Is a transmission flush recommended for a Honda Accord 99' 4 cylinder?

SO I was driving on the highway at around 70-80 mph when all of a sudden my RPM's shot upto 4k, my car trembled and buckled, then it had a hard time revving up to normal speed without the RPM's going higher than they should. So I did my research, took it to several shops and they all told me that I would need the tranny replaced or rebuilt for about $1200 some dollars, because supposedly my "gears are slipping" and when I shift gears my car jumps especially when i take it off from Neutral. So I've let my car sit a few days and have taken the bus. I test drive it tonight to see how it is and it seems that it has gone back to normal, like nothing happened. It still kind of trembles a bit when it starts getting hot and I noticed a clicking sound on the gear shift area when I press the breaks. I am so confused and I have no idea what the problem is. I recently replaced my O2 sensor because my car was running rich and I replaced my CAT back in April. I will have to drive to work and see how it acts but I'm very confused as to what has happened. Would it also be recommended to drain the old transmission fluid without doing a flush and just replacing it with new fluid? PLEASE HELP!
