...is preferable for a beginner? i'm an indian and can spend around Rs.2000 for it......i can spend a little more if it's mandatory....
what would be the cost of both of them.........i need to observe the night skies....
 
If you can manage it, get both. I own a number of telescopes, but I also use my binoculars every night. In fact, I consider binoculars an essential accessory for any telescope, as they help you figure out how to find things in the telescope; a telescope without binoculars is limited to the brightest objects. A good pair of binoculars is a lot less expensive than a telescope, though a telescope will give you high magnifications for planets that binoculars can't match. Tough decision, especially as I know how expensive optical items are in India.
