Is a Suzuki Dr350s a good start bike?

I looking to get in to riding motorcycles is this bike to big it has 30 hp or so and my mom doesnt think i should ride bikes becasue she thinks i have to much of my life in fornt of me even though im not going to be street riding. Im 16 and wieght about 165lbs and am 6'1. all im asking is a way to get my mom to let me ride and if this is to much power for me at 349cc??
