Is a soft top better then a hard top for a jeep?

Im looking to buy a jeep and deciding on if I want soft top or hard. Which is best to have? I think soft top would be easier for summer driving but is it safe for winter with cold and snow? And how hard is it to remove them both? Looking for answers from people who have hard top and soft top. Also if I get tow hitch, whats the maximum I can tow?
I live in Wisconsin if that helps.
 
I have a 2005 wrangler i bought it with a hard top because it better in the winter and a lot quieter. then i ordered a soft top online for about $300 not to bad i think its better to get a hard top then buy a soft top for it and put the hardtop on in the winter and switch it out in the summer with the soft top
