i am very interested in getting a road bike..........i was just wondering if i should get a cheaper single speed bike or a gear bike?

i do go up some pretty big hills

do they make a single speed bike that u can coast on?

NO, NO , YES in that order. IF you have big hills then get yourself off of the single speed kick. It will do you NO good on hills and your legs will crumble beneath you. Since you do not know the difference in geared road bikes vs s/s then YOU NEED a 3 peice crank at a minimum with gears in the rear to climb and you are not a seasoned cyclist ....One is not better than the other! A ss is made more for flat land because you can only go so fast on a ss and that is it ....there are no options to go faster of course a geared bike has options and when you are in the highest gear possible you are not climbing but on a long straightaway or going down hill. A ss will kill you climbing and with no low gears to climb with it would be likely that you will be pushing your bike up rather than ridding to the top of those hills!

Single speed bikes are not made to go up hills. For hills you want to get a road bike with a triple chain ring. If you have trouble going up hills with that you can also change the cassette on the rear wheel to a larger combination.
