Is a Ninja 500r A good beginner bike?

I was looking at getting a bike, but I was wondering if a Kawasaki Ninja 500r is a good starter bike? I turn 17 soon and then will immediately be taking the MSF course, but I have no riding experience. I'm 5'10, 220 pounds. Part of the reason I want the 500 is because while I havent seen a ninja 250 in person, ive seen other 250 bikes that are just really small, and seem like their too small (Honda Rebel, Im looking at you)
