Is a GSX 1000 a good first bike or Should I just get the GSX 600 instead?

Now my question is that I want the GSX 1000 but from what I been reading from other peoples post they say for a first bike you should get a GSX 600 or low. Now I ridden a Ducati 748 which was a friends and I really enjoyed it. I did not crash his bike, drop it, or anything. My question is should I go get what I want the GSX 1000 or should I go back down to the GSX 600 since this will be my frist bike?
