is a ford mondeo on a 1998 plate cheap to fix when broke and are they cheap to maintain?

not actually brought it yet,its a 1.8glx hatchback there is a cheap one going in local free ads and my car is on its last legs so need something cheap but reasonabily reliable but cheap to fix
