Engine for engine, the 4G63 is a much better platform for a few reasons:
It's tried and true. The 4G63 platform has been in service since the 80's.
It comes turbocharged and has proven itself by such builders as John Shepherd, Brent Rau, and countless others.
You can get 350-400 wheel horsepower with OE internals (pistons, rods, crank, bearings).
Dollar per horsepower wise, including upgrades, are cheaper in the short run and long run.
Basically, with the 420A in the 2G Eclipse/Talon it's known as the 'fat' Neon. With 140 horsepower at the wheels, not turbocharged, and with a turbo kit costing approximately 2,500 from HAHN Racecraft, it's much more worth it to buy a turbocharged Talon/Eclipse.
Reliability on both standards are about the same though. It all depends on who owned the vehicle prior and how they took care of it.
