Is a BFA in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design as good as a BFA in...

...Graphic Design? I'm in community college right now working on my A.A.S in Advertising and Graphic Design and when I finish I plan on transferring to a university to get my BFA. However, none of the public colleges in my state offer a BFA in Graphic Design, they only offer a BFA in Art with a concentration in either Design or Graphic Design. The private colleges have BFA's in Graphic Design, but I can't afford the tuition.

So is a BFA in Art with a Design concentration as good as a BFA in Graphic Design? I know the main thing that matters is the portfolio, but a lot of employers require bachelor's degrees in Graphic Design. Is the BFA in Art considered to be pretty equal to a graphic design degree?
 
I believe that if you have just your BFA in Graphic Design that means you strictly took graphic design courses and didn't have to take entry level drawing, painting and printmaking kind of classes before getting into the graphic design work. Your BFA in Art with a concentration in GD is saying that you are a well rounded artist because you will have to take those entry level classes before you get into the Graphic Design work. I'm graduating with my BA in two weeks with a concentration in Graphic Design. It makes you appreciate art more, with the art history classes you take. Double check with one of your advisors on this before taking anything that I said seriously. I'm about 95% sure that its correct because I've never heard the difference before and this would seem to make the most sense to me.
