Is a '97 Honda Accord worth $3000?

I'm in the market for a new car, and I recently came across a 1997 Honda Accord that appeared to be in very good shape. It has about 190,000 miles on it, it is a manual transmission, and the salesman told me that a new clutch was just put in. My mom test drove it (I can't drive a stick shift, but I am willing to learn), and the car ran smoothly. The salesman also told me that the original price for it was $4000, and after I told him I only had $2500 in cash, he talked to the dealership owner and cut the price down and told me I could make payments after my initial down payment. The car also has all of the necessary safety and emissions inspections and I believe he said there was a warranty on it. I don't remember how long the warranty is for though.

I know close to nothing about cars, so I want to know if this is a good deal that I am potentially passing up, or should I keep looking for something else?

That seems a bit low for a dealer's price. Honda engines can last many hundred thousand miles if they're taken care of and my Honda has 240,000 on it and still runs strong. Judging from how the dealer is willing to cut almost a third off the price makes me wary. I would test drive the car with a friend and if both of you feel it's a good car, I would get a car-fax report and also take it to an independant mechanic to inspect it before purchasing it.

i'm not much of a car know it all either,
but.
3000 for a 97 seems good.
i bought a 94 oldsmobile for 2500.
we've put more than 2000 in repairs for it.
rust, brakes, etc.

its a pretty good deal. Be firm on your price though and tell him that you DONT want to make payments!

97 Honda Accord with 190,000 miles DO NOT BUY IT BECAUSE AT 200,000 YOU HAVE TO REBUILD THE ENGINE BUTS THAT'S JUST ME I WILL HAVE HELL PROMBLES IT THE LONG RUN WITH THAT MANY MILES
