I've always had better driving in the snow with a front wheel drive car so right now as I'm looking for a car for my son this is a consideration. We live in an area that get's quite a bit of winter snow.

the almost Mustang has front wheel drive, but they changed the name at the last minute and by popular demand to the Ford Probe..

Rear Wheel Drive.

My dad had a mustang from around that timeframe late '80s or early '90s. I borrowed it while visiting for christmas, and it was challenging to drive in icy weather, it takes a gentle foot with V-8 power and RWD to keep the car pointed where you want to go, and it was sort of piggish. By that I mean it isn't like a neutral-balance car that you can easily steer with the throttle, it would be understeering/pushing with your foot off the gas, and oversteering/spinning with your foot on the gas, and you are lucky to find that neutral point in the middle somewhere.

Depending on the way that he drives. If you see tat he has a lead foot then maybe you should consider something else. But if he is a good driver then you should let him get it. But warn him about this. Remember there are alot of awd vehicles that are as quick as the mustang.

it is rear wheel drive, but let me say that i have a rear wheel drive car and we had a fat load of snow this winter and if you drive carefully, then she'll handle just fine.

i suggest you let him get the car, but make him buy a set of chains for his tires.
