is a 2008 Yamaha WR 250X good for freeway? or is the motor to small for it?

or can I just buy a crf 450 or any 450 dirt bike and put some street tires and make it street legal and get plates for it?
i need it to commute from house to work.
I will have to take the freeway but i dont like the sports bike they are to heavy.
what do you recommend or it is possible what i want?
