I'm considering buying a used 2001 Taurus. I have a mechanic friend who says that Tauruses aren't to be trusted, but everything I've been able to find online indicates that they're pretty reliable (people routinely post about getting them up to 300k or 400k miles with no major problems, edmunds seems to like them, msn auto gives them a 5 out of 5 for reliability, etc). Is a used Taurus a bad bet? How many miles would you estimate a guy could get on an 01 Taurus before it died? Also, are there any years where the Taurus was particularly better or worse than in other years? Thanks!
