Is 6,000 words to little for a novel?

I just finished typing my story, which is exactly 6,065 words. I would like to get it published, but I've read that the word count for novels should be at least 15,000. Should I still try to get it published as a novel, or should I try to get it published as a novella or short story?

It's very short. Most of my novels are at least 30,000 words. Perhaps you should use more description, add a plot twist, and/or add another character. If you were to get it published, I'd try a short story...

Anything under 6,000 is considered a short story. The above link will break it all down for you.

Wow. I clicked on the source it provides and it said that a "micro-fiction" is only up to 100 words and a "flash fiction" is 100-1000. I've never heard of this concept. Neat.

Yes, most papers people write for college are at least 6000 words. You could try and sell it as a short story. 6000 is too short to call it a 'novel'. For instance, I believe the first Harry Potter book is 80,000 words. So, you have less than 1/10th of that.

Short story. Definitely. I could not take a book seriously if it was any less than 10,000 and called itself a novel.
Not to say that it's not quality- just make sure it's the right category!
