Is 23 too old for college?

I really want to go to FIDM or FITNYC and major in Product development (in Fashion). But everyone's telling me I'm getting too old for a fashion major or career. My family is made up of Doctors, Vets and medical Techs, and businessmen. I wanted to major in something creative, and everyone is telling me I'm too old.

Is 23 rly too old for fashion school? This is really upsetting to hear

God no, it's definitely not too old. I'm 21 and a lot of people I am in classes in are 23-25. I've taken many art classes (I used to be an art major) and there have been people in their 40's and 50's in there. There is no such thing as too old for college.

No one is ever to old to learn. If you want to go, go. What is the worst that can happen? You fail...atleast your showing you have the guts to try. Better than some these days. 80 and 90 year old grandmothers are going back to college for degrees simply because they want to, why not go simply because you want to? And have fun doing it.
Personally I think we need new designers. Some of the ones today have no clue and no sense. They see a skinny 4lb. model and dress her gorgeously for an evening out. A 150lb model they feel the need to dress her like she was a Barnum & Bailey circus clown. As well they have no sense of age appropriateness it seems.

Fashion is an age sensitive field re: entry level jobs, but I am happy to say that you aren't too old to enter it quite yet!

FIT offers an associates degree in your field, which employers really respect. You could do that so you enter the field asap, or get the entire bachelors - your choice. No matter what, though, do an internship in your field while you study, so you are employable when you graduate.

FIT is a way better school than FIDM is. FIDM isn't very well respected in the fashion industry; while FIT is one of the top fashion programs in the US. Another very strong program is the one at Parsons School of Design. I'd rank that one #1, FIT a very close #2.

Other quality fashion programs exist at U Cincinnati, Kent State U, Drexel U, RISD, and Otis College of Art. Otis is the best program on the west coast.

I started college when I was 16, just turned 18. Holey hell if 23 is too old for any kind of school! Go for it, and certainly DO NOT listen to other people about being too old to do something. You're old enough to know better, and young enough to still try.

FIDM is NOT accredited.

it is for profit and a waste or your precious time, money and energy

23 ? are you kidding me?

I am 23 years old and I just now know what I want to study
