Is £1/day a ridiculous charge for an overdue book?

I've been so focused on my exams, which made my overdue library book 2nd priority. The book is old and probably not worth more than £5. I checked my email there and it says they are charging me £1/day. I absolutely refuse to pay such a ridiculous amount (£20) and while I was careless, the book is old, not high in demand and rugged. I wouldn't even buy the bloody book for £20. But would you pay it?
 
That is ridiculous for them to ask you to pay that much, where i am it's 5p a day,
my advice would be to talk to your tutor and tell them your situation and see what they say, OR tell the library you've lost the book and find out what the replacement fine is, it might be a lot less,

or you could just forget about it and hope they do too, but this doesn't always work.
 
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! As if you would have to pay that much....that sucks....maybe tell the librarian to reduce the price....i mean here in Australia where I live, it is like 20c a day for fines.....y didn't you just tell the librarian you lost the book and pay the 5pounds? dat way, u have the book and you don't have to pay the huge fine. That's just ridiculous!!!!
