Okay so i have a talent for falling in love with the worst horses out there. I love the crazys the horses with fire. but i've also loved the big loveable draft horses (who wouldn't) but what can you guys tell me about the Irish Draught/sport horses I've always admired them and want to get into eventing.

I worked for a lady in Danville KY at a stable, she specialized in this breed, though she had lots of other breeds too. I was in charge of a mare barn and a stallion barn so I can offer a pretty wide example of knowledge about temperament. She had one stallion named Tempest who was the devil incarnate, after a few weeks of me handling him he began to trust me and I became his primary care giver, since every one else was scared of him.It was a good thing too because when he got into a bad accident and was injured I was the only person who could hose him down and care for him.( man was his owner so mad and jealous, he wouldn't even let her in the stall!) He was the kind of horse I like to call a one person horse. they attach to one person who understands them and everyone else is considered a non herd member. Any way she also had another stallion named Robin, he was exactly the opposite. He loved everyone and was more gentle then most of the mares! these horses love exercise and if you plan on stalling to much they will literally go insane. they also require alot of companionship because of their intelligence so be prepared to be their for them more than most other breeds. The feed and water intake varies greatly too because of the mix of hot and cold bloods, some eat like arabians and gain no weight and some will founder from fat with the same feed amounts. The huskier, thicker boned ones usually eat like a draft and the finer boned usually eat like arabs, then again some are opposite of that, so be careful to figure out the requirements of your specific horse. They are most commonly crossed with thoroughbreds so be ready for that sometimes high strung temperament. they can inherit the Thoroughbred temperament or the draught or a nice medium of the two. These horses can do anything you ask of them, be sure to get the one that is suited best to what you plan to do with them. they are not all the same "type', their conformation and temperaments vary greatly between the individuals.Hope this helps and good luck!
