Hi. I'm 13 years old. I started dance last year when I was 12. The ONLY way my teacher would let me in was for me to be in the class with all the little kids. (5-9 yrs old.) So now all I know is the:
1.Jig
2.2 steps of the reel
3.2steps of the single jig
4.2 steps of the slip jig
5.3 ceili dances: 2 hand reel, 3 hand reel, and the Harvest Time Jig. ( I got special permission to learn that with the advanced dancers my age!)
so I can go to a feis, but my family is big and we're always busy, so we can't go anytime soon. And I feel like a looser because I'm in the little kid class and I feel like I'm stuck at Advanced Beginner and I feel like I'll never never never get a solo dress let alone a school dress! That's right, I don't even have a school dress. I wear a black skirt and a white blouse with my school's crown. I made friends with the advanced dancers, but they all go to a different class night. I'm going to learn hardshoe this year, but I'm feeling desperate. Will I ever move up to a level with dancers my age?Since I'm older, I'm ahead of the class and I have to wait for them to catch up before we all can move on to something new. I mean I'm glad that I'm in dance at least and a lot of people say that I must really be serious about Irish dance if I even went as far as to join with the little kids, but could you guys give me some advice and maybe let me know if I'll ever move up ahead of the little kids? Thanks a ton. Ireland forever!
