iPod Touch question

I've heard the iPhone is going down in price soon so I'm assuming that means the iPod touch should go down in price too, right? Is it supposed to be cheaper than the iPhone or what?

My brother wants an 8gb Ipod Touch but I keep telling him he should wait until the price drops..

They're not going to drop the touch prices. AT&T is paying something like a $300 subsidy on each iphone, which is why they're cheaper. It's going to take them a few years just to start making a profit on them. It's a move to gain marketshare.

The touch is the "high end" ipod. If they significantly drop the price on it they would have to drop the prices at each price point, which they're not going to do. They have an ipod at practically every $50 interval. What they'll do is release a 64gb model and drop the 32gb down to the 16gb price. The iphone isn't really an alternative to the touch anymore. You can't buy one without signing up for the contract on the spot. So while it may look like it would compete with the touch because of the price, it doesn't.
