Sir,
I am holding an ipod touch with Model No. A1288 as on backside of the ipod. It is in disabled condition. I an uanble to find the version in it because I don't know whether it is 2g or 3g.

If I restore it to 4.0 iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw (default downloaded by itunes) do I need to do anything after restoration.
Please suggest and guide me step by step if possible.

Thanks and awaiting reply of the experts and seniors.

be careful.
if your ipod is not jailbroken this is not gonna work. one time customer brought his ipod touch disabled so i couldnt even detected version with forecast so i had to guest the firmware version and try to restore it with 2g v3.1.3 and gave me this error 3194 that means downgrade error, ipod was on ios 4.0. solution restore with ios 4.0 and jailbrake it with redsn0w_win_0[1].9.5b5-3.
hope works for you.

yes that what im saying with ipod touch restore with itunes and firm v4.0. iphone restore with 4.0 and the run redsnow and problem solved

Gentleman, I had a risk of my own and after keen observation over the downloaded file I restored it manually by selecting this file and (old version) iPod2_1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw instead of going to new version i.e. 4.0. Somehow my problem was solved with this file and need nothing to do after restoration. No redsnow Nothing. It was activated by default after restoration. Thanks for all the seniors for suggesting what to do.
