Ipod isn't compatible to Alpine stereo?

I just bought a cheap ipod, 5th Generation 30GB to use for my car. I have an Alpine head unit with KCE-422i adapter. According to websites, my ipod should be compatible. But when I plug it in, it says it is not.

Crutchfield says 5th Generation Ver. 1.1.2. My ipod is Ver. 1.3
Sonic Electronix says 5th Generation 30GB ipod too.

What is wrong?
