Ipod connected to USB on Ford Focus ST2, shows on stereo but no sound comes out?

The i-pod and stereo show that they are both connected (via the usb) however, when the i-pod is playing, no sound comes out of the speakers. I've plugged an ipod shuffle in via the aux line out and that seems to be ok. Can anyone help?
 
Have you got it in the aux mode?
if not i think you have to press the AM button twice to get it in aux mode on your car stereo. (Not entirely sure though)
