Ipod 3rd generation freezes when I plug it in car?

If you did the upgrade to 3.0 software apple added something, so that 3rd party cables no longer work on there Pods. Most likely your friends didn't do the upgrade. I found this out after I updated my iPhone and 3 of my audio/video to iPod cables That I used to watch my pod on my TV with, are now useless.
 
i have an ipod 3rd generation and when I go to plug it into my fm transmitter or anyone else's it freezes and I can't move the screen or anything and i feel its only mine because my friend has the same one and when she plugs hers in it works fine.. so can anyone help me please?
