Iphone with ATT prepaid?

I would like to get the ATT pay as you go plan that is 60 bucks a month and has unlimited talk and text, but I would like to use an Iphone that my friend has offered to sell me for a good deal. would this work? I know att requires a data plan with iphones under contract but is there a policy like this with a prepaid plan such as this? a phone that is basically an Itouch is exactly what I have been looking for.....
yea I used to work for tmobile so I understand sims and such but wasnt sure about the policies at att and as for the 3.1.3 update, why is this not unlockable?
 
If you unlock the iPhone, you can use the sim card from the pay as you go phone.

You have to get the pay as you go plan with anyphone (the cheapest one) and remove the sim card. If you don't know what I mean, google "remove at&t simcard".

You need to unlock the iPhone now. Google "unlock iphone tutorial" and figure that out.

Ask your friend if the iPhone uses the 3.1.3 firmware or the 3.1.2 firmware.
If it is the 3.1.3 firmware, unfortunately, you cannot unlock the iPhone.

Just do some google searches if you don't understand something I said, or shoot me an email.
