Apple Introduces the iPhone! What is so great about?

After numerous fake photos, information and specification, phone that everyone has been yearning for a years, famous and long awaited iPhone is released and I just can?t find what is so great about. I know, it hasn?t anything wit Symbian and this directly but as the real freak I just have to say something about new player in the Smartphone World.

Anyway, after detailed overview of the specifications and features I just can?t anything amazing in it, what is so great about?! Design!? Yeah I have to admit that it looks nice but who really care about?!? Common, features before all, its our rule No.1 inst it, size, weight, height, width or even price are almost completely irrelevant fact.

Maybe because the price is almost the same? Consumers who are willing to lay down 600 bucks on a phone are the power users. We expect smartphone features for that price.

First of all as I don?t like useless rhetoric like you, this going to be my last post here!

The 2nd but not less important thing; OK I accept possibilities that I have wrong definition of the Smartphones, but there is a pretty clear and detailed definition of Smartphone on the wikipedia and this dumb thing IS NOT A SMART PHONE, not at all, eve if it has the smart OS the GUI is completely dumb and simplified.

However there is at least one point where I completely agree with you, there is so many dumb people that use Smartphones but its not Nokia's mistake its their mistake, although Nokia has radically redesigned function of the RED key and now instead of sending application in background it just KILL it to avoid situation with too much applications in background. MULTITASKING is great ability, its one of the first and most important advantages of the Smartphone and Nokia shouldn?t remove it because the dumb people doesn?t know hot use it and take advantage of it. Its just like PC there is a PC in every single household nowadays but it doesn?t means that it is useful and that people know how to use it on the right way.

At the end, sure, I remember my first Symbian and THAT WAS MAGICAL AND REVOLUTIONAR phone, you just can?t deny that!?!?!?!?! I experienced the love at first sight few years ago when I saw first Nokia 7650 prototype, not remember what attracted us, maybe colour screen, maybe first real camera phone (VGA), maybe smart phone concept, maybe MMS capabilities, maybe all in one, not sure what but we falled in love each other, and this love keep growing until today.

I know that it maybe sounds childish, some people don't believe in true love, or love at first sight, but my love with Nokia/Symbian/S60 is the real prove that love at first sight exist in real world. And no, I hadn?t so many questions, I have read user manual completely and that was enough to start and after all I hadn?t anybody to ask about, because I was one of the first with this beauty in the pocket.

Sincerely yours,
Teo

If you call this a smartphone you are simply fooling yourself. Yes it's a cool phone, yes it's pretty, and "neat". But it takes more than that to get me dropping $600. I don't even see how this could be a threat to Nokia at all. I mean honestly, no 3G and a 2 megapixel camera. Have you heard of the N95? I can't wait until people start dropping/breaking/losing their iPhones and trying to get them replaced at retail because from what I've heard you can't buy them outright. Also you know insurance isn't going to cover this bad boy.

With so many photos of completely functional units it appears apple is really trying to protect their product by releasing it in July and work out all of the kinks. Im sure current and future developers are well aware of the 'out of the box' bugs that seem to plague the most current S60's. That being said, if reviews and consumer opinions are that of a stable and sharp UI then Nokia and the rest of the 'smart phone' world should be worried.

We have to keep in mind for right now this isn't really a "smart phone".

From what I have read there is no way to install 3rd party apps. If I can't install my own games and apps then this unit isnt for me. Also at 600 bucks the unit really shouldn't be closed to just apple for applications.

This phone also isn't 3G I think I read its 2.75G.

And I can see it now, Cingular is going to have some sort of rip off the customer all you can eat data plan that will cost an arm and a leg. I doubt you'll get away with MediaNet on this unit.

I really wish they sold the iphone unlocked and had support of 3rd party developers. I mean what are we gonna do when skype moble comes out?

I think as of right now Im still waiting for my N95 And well my wife she is counting the days unit the iphone releases.

Apple?s Jobs: ?You don?t want your phone to be like a PC?

Apple CEO Steve Jobs says consumers can expect more mobile applications for the iPhone by the time the device ships in June?but that Apple will control what applications make it onto the iPhone, much like it has done with every iPod.

?We define everything that is on the phone,? Jobs told the New York Times. ?You don?t want your phone to be like a PC. The last thing you want is to have loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it doesn?t work anymore. These are more like iPods than they are like computers.? Jobs told Newsweek something similar. ?You don?t want your phone to be an open platform,? he said. ?You need it to work when you need it to work. Cingular doesn?t want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up.?

?These are devices that need to work, and you can?t do that if you load any software on them,? Jobs continued. ?That doesn?t mean there?s not going to be software to buy that you can load on them coming from us. It doesn?t mean we have to write it all, but it means it has to be more of a controlled environment.?

My comment on these statments is NO COMMENT!

I will attempt to keep my "rhetoric" to a minimum in my reply

While I do feel that Nokia Should shoulder some of the blame, I feel that it is just as much the carriers who carry these phone's fault as they should be providing more information on the symbian platform to help make the consumer more aware of the bennifits of the phone there chosing.

I will say this one last time, I AM A SYMBIAN FANBOY!!!! And yes, I do agree with you that the iphone is NOT a smartphone when compareing it to symbian. But if its not a "smartphone" and it's not quite a "dumb" phone, than what the hell is it?

for us pc users its not a smartphone cuse outlook is ms, the rest i think apple will provide all that at top price!!

to apple users they will think its a smartphone cuse you will beable to sync with the apple branded outlook.

i hope you could just drag and drop the music on the ipda cuse i hate itunes!!

Smartphone Thoughts: iPhone losing battle!

iPhone is released two days ago and my opinion about it is already very well know. It seams that Apple is basically forcing us to use as many Apple?s products as possible, and in nearest future we can expect iToaster because its dangerous and stupid to use some non-Apple product. As I have already wrote pretty detailed article about iPhone and I?m not going to write long piece again.

This product is simply one of the most OVERRATED, overpriced, and hyped up pieces of hardware on the market ever, which is pretend: ?to be revolutionary and magical product that is liter... .. .

BINGO!! Imagine if all Symbian apps HAD to be Symbian-signed, otherwise it wouldn't be installed. There would be a hell of a lot less applications being released as "Betas".

Let's take it one step further, M$ has teamed up with Ford to include telematics hardware into their new luxury model vehicles. Should Microsoft allow third-party navigation to interface with the car's systems?

I think Jobs is right on this one. Don't get me wrong, I love Symbian and my N73. IMO, this is how they rate(in terms geek factor) SE < iPhone < Nokia.

I was totally stoked until I realized all of this:

1.) Who cares if it has OS X if you can't take advantage of it for 3rd party apps? Unix apps? None of that, so it's not even a freakin' smartphone, just a convergence device.

2.) Exclusive with Cing, no thanks.
