So, my family is getting a contract with AT&T this month and it now puts me in a place of making a decision on a new phone.
I'm a huge texter and as much as I love phones with actual QWERTY keyboards, I don't find any of the AT&T phones with them to my liking.
Therefore, it comes down to the iPhone or the Eternity.
They're both touchscreens and both nicely responsive, but they're completely different too.. Help me decided?
iPhone
Pros
- Has a lot more apps then the Eternity.
- Can be customized. I arrange it how I like.
- FULL internet ; not HTML only
- Can have Pandora added to it; I love Pandora. Major plus for me.
- Memory comes at atleast 8GB.
- Shows texts in conversation. Now I don't have to run through all my texts to see what I had texted them.
Cons
- No QWERTY. If I get the phone, I'd get the app to get the QWERTY, but it's still a pain to have to do that.
- GPS is kind of disappointing to me (at least it was on my sister's iPhone 3G). I get lost a lot. I need directions. GOOD ones. The general area I'm in is okay, but I'd prefer a you-are-right-here-at-this-dot. Not you-are-somewhere-in-this-huge-circle.
- NO video?! WHAT? I like my videos!
- I can't send pictures through MMS? I like to send pictures.. DEFINITE DOWNSIDE. I understand that you can email it to someones phone, but still... such a hassle for something that should be easy..
Questions
- How easily damaged is the iPhone? I tend to drop my phones (I currently have a Verizon EnV, which I have killed.) and I need a phone that can handle quite a bit.
- The battery time varied from everyone I talked to. How good is the actual thing? Can it handle a lot of texting? Internet? Music playing?
- If I play music, can I go off and do something else and have the music play continuously in the background? Does it turn off if I get a call? Turn back on afterwards?
- How good is the keyboard? I am aware they made an app to get it to go to QWERTY in landscape (which I'd positively get), but is is easy to type in the QWERTY? Are the buttons nicely spaced? Does it contain T9?
Eternity
Pros
- Vibrates when touched. I like that I can be positive it got my request.
- Hold button (which unlocks phone) is on top. Much easier to unlock then iPhone - in my opinion - as I don't have to look at the screen.
- Pictures through MMS? YES!
- GPS was good. Talked to me - iPhone doesn't. In my opinion, was more helpful and accurate. TOLD me when to turn -- for once, I didn't miss the street.
- Camera is higher resolution
- Media package is cheaper.
Cons
- HTML browser.
- Can't really be customized. Can't add widgets.
- NO PANDORA. I can live without it on my phone, but definitely disappointing.
- I'll have to buy memory.
Questions
- How easily is the phone damaged?
- Is the battery good? Can it handle a lot of texting? Music playing?
- Is the keyboard nicely spaced? Easy to type? I haven't had much problems with this keyboard in the AT&T store, but I really haven't had much time to really play around with it yet.
It all comes down to those, unless someone shows me an amazing phone with a REAL QWERTY.
I'm highly disappointed that I couldn't find one...
