iphone unlocking questions?

so if i buy an iphone off ebay unlocked...will i just my sim card in it and it will work? is it legal to have an unlocked iphone? will i get in trouble? does the internet on it just work all the time or do you have to pay for it? does it work just like a normal iphone? can i just update it like i would if i bought it from the store? cuz i heard you can't unlock it and then update it. what will happen if you do?
 
1) Yes any carrier with a sim card will work on it (At&t, T-mobile, etc)

2) It's legal

3) No

4) You can use Wi-fi on it for free

5) It works like a normal Iphone, but it can accept any sim card (which is good).

6) I don't know about that one

If you do buy an unlocked Iphone from Amazon, make sure it's the real thing.
