Iphone unlocked question

I have a question regarding an unlocked Iphone.
Say I purchased an unlocked one from ebay and inserted my sim card, would I still have to pay the monthly charge that entails with the Iphone? I have at&t by the way

Yes, you would still have to go onto an Iphone rate plan.

Oh definitely get set up on an iPhone rate plan. Your plan is attached to your SIM, so if you pop it in and use the internet you will see charges rack up really really fast...iPhones use a LOT of data very very quickly.

Technically, you could sign up for the unlimited media net at $20/mo before you bought the iphone, then when you receive it you could just slip in the sim. Or if you don't plan on using data, you don't have to say anything and you can just use the phone without a problem.
