iphone for a mechanic/ bodyman?

i am looking into getting an iphone possibly but have some worries about its durability when it comes to physical and/or dirt and dust. I work as a bodyman including some mechanical work too. how would the iphone hold up to some abuse when it comes to using it while at work and stuff like that. there is usually alot of body dust and dirt floating around the shop, also working with grease, dirt, grime, paints, thinners and such. and wonder how good the phone will hold up to those elements. are there any mechanics using iphones? or should i be looking another route for a phone? i just feel that the iphone can do so much where i can use it to my advantage, for example working on my own car finding technical bulletins and much more. need some ideas and maybe pointers on it getting the iphone working in the automotive industry, or going with something else?
 
Go ahead and get the iphone. Just keep your old phone and swap your sim card into it whenever you go to work. I don't think that the iphone would look too nice with grease smeared all over the screen.
 
i dont have another phone with a sim card. otherwise i would do that, i have verizon right now but my contract is up so deciding on going a different route this time.
 
also not sure if its really worth it for 100 bucks a month? seeing as if something breaks there is no insurance for it really like getting a new phone if it breaks.
 
Depends on how hard you are on the device, whether you drop it a lot and where you carry it.

And make sure ATT has the coverage you need before you leave VZW.
 
im almost positive it has the coverage i need. i dont drop my phone too often but there are always accidents, also my biggest thing is the price per month, i am paying around 75$ a month now.
 
The iphone probably won't work too well at work. I used to be a machinist and had a n82 at the time. Would just keep my phone in my toolbox and not touch it much during the day, unless I just washed my hands.

Trust me, you won't want to get your new phone all dirty.
 
Well i have the otter box on my 3gs and i work as a body man as well. Its a great case for the fone. I have dropped it several times and no damage done so far. I also have it right there with me as i pull motors and trannies as well. Get the iphone but get the otter box . It will be the best 40 bucks you spent.
 
Yup!!! I've got an Otterbox defender for my Iphone, and I love it. I instal and sand hardwood floors...so you could imagine what my phone must go through!! The few times I have taken it out of the case, it look the same as the day I first put it in there. I wouldn't trust my phone in any other case!
