iPhone chat application that stays on even when you minimize it?

You know how when you're using the iPod or Phone apps on the iPhone, you can continue listening to your music or talking to your friend even while using the phone for other things, when the app itself is minimized, and even when the phone is locked? Is there such an application that does that for chat?

So that even if you minimize the app to do other things, it'll keep you signed in and online?
 
No, you can only do that with the music player, thats where the htc hero comes in handy and a nokia smart phone... The iphone cant multi task so it doesnt really make it very usuable like other phones on the market!
