In some cases you can't put Iphone into recovery mode (by turning on or playing with buttons), only DFU availible. Easy way to do this-
Put Iphone into DFU mode.
Start recovery with latest oficial firmware.
Wait untill white screen apears, phone will disconnect and connect computer (changes DFU mode to recovery).
After connecting to CPU in recovery mode- disconnect phone from cable and wait untill screen comes black.
Turn off Itunes and connect phone to cable again (or you can simply turn on, but sometimes it not works).
Also this procedure can help with error29 (maybie some others too).
If you get this error at the end of restore custom firmware- make this prodedure and after this flash custom firmware again.
Tested with 3GS (old bootrom).
Not works if phone have hardware problems.
