iPhone 4 vs Android

Is the iPhone 4 going to be technically the most advance smart phone.

Best battery life, memory, processor, screen, camera ?
Or are there better Android devices available now or soon ?

I am looking to ditch the iPhone.
I really hate Apples policies.

I am asking if the are now or if there will soon be devices more advanced than the iPhone 4.
I DID NOT SAY I HATE APPLE !!!! I said I hate certain policies.

Learn to read.

I buy the most technically advanced hardware possible, I could careless who makes it.
I would not buy a Android device if it is not technically better than the iPhone 4.

There's are Android devices that technically blow the iPhone away... Look at the Incredible, EVO or other devices. OLED Displays, 1GHZ Snapdragon Processors... etc. While I LOVED my iPhone for the time, now, I'm just like "Huh?".

With 5-years as a member here...and over 700 posts, you should realize that there is a huge amount of information around here and on the web about other technology and mobile devices.

Perhaps you need to follow your own instructions.

The iPhone 4 actually has superior display technology with the IPS screen, pixel density and it's screen resolution. The processor in the iPhone is comparable and most likely a 1Ghz processor.
The iPhone OS is also more polished, more uniform and more intuitive than Android 2.1 or even 2.2.

I'd say it's a pretty even game right now.

The A4 is on a par with the 1Ghz Snapdragon, roughly, in terms of processing power.

There are already 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon phones in the pipeline that will be available certainly within the next few months.

Android 2.2 is coming very soon. It will provide a number of new features, including improved application performance by up to 2x - 5x, much better processing of JS in web pages, not to mention Flash 10.1 video support, and improved BT support and integration, just to name a few things. And the next generation of Android (codenamed Gingerbread, no number yet) is expected in another 7-10 months, before one might expect to see the next iteration of iPhone hardware or a major iOS 4 update.

So it looks to me like iPhone 4/iOS 4 are roughly on par with the top-end Android devices now, but with Android's faster hardware and software development cycles, Apple is beginning to fall behind, and looks likely to fall further behind in the future (unless they speed up their development cycle, which I don't think they want to do).

True, that looks to be an awesome screen; I can't wait to see one in person.

True, but we know dual-core Snapdragons are on their way. Apple has been very closed with info on their mobile processors but it's possible they could have an improved CPU on the way too. We'll have to see.

I think 'polish' is a rather subjective characteristic, so I don't know if I would accept this as a blanket statement.

As far as 'intuitive' goes, for people who like Apple products and the way their interfaces work, I suppose this is true. I've never much liked Apple's interfaces -- I don't like the way Macs work, I don't like iTunes, and whenever I play with one of my kids' Touches or my wife's iPad, I sometimes fumble at getting it to do what I want to do.

So I don't think this is something that is universally true either.

What I DO think is universally, objectively true is that if you DON'T particularly like the way some Apple product works, your ability to customize it to work in a way that suits you better is much more constrained than other platforms.

Agree, on a hardware basis. Actually Apple might still be ahead a bit on hardware, especially given their superior battery life and that beautiful screen.

But overall, I think it depends on what's important to you.

Obviously, in terms of application availability and developer support, Android is still far, far behind Apple.

But then again, there are some areas, such as voice command integration and multitasking, where I think Android is still pretty far ahead of iOS, and with Android's faster development cycle....

I must agree that at the moment iphone 4.0 vs android is about equal. In terms of software- Apple is on version 4 while Android is only one 2. Kind of hard to compare the 2.

even speaking on the subject of only HARDWARE superiority, i would think that android software just FINALLY started to catch up these past 3+ months considering how long it took for GAMING developers to start to utilize the snapdragon processors. So i would still argue that the software/apps arent always as well developed so how could hardware matter when its not fully used. Even in the sense of 5+mp cameras, its the sensor quality/technology rather than the number. Look how much noise most these cameras take. In fact the HTC incredibles 8mp Camera isnt as good as its early brother the Nexus 5mp. Unless the Hardware is Numerous leaps over the rest of the industry (impossible to happen for very long) theres not much to gawk over.

ROFL I think they read just fine. It's far from a stretch to relate hating a company's policies with hating the company itself. In fact, many people that say they hate a company hate them because of their policies (esp in the case of wireless providers). Just because you wish to make a distinction between the company and it's policies doesn't mean everyone will catch that without stating it.

No need to insult them and insinuate they don't know how to read.

Anyways, I'm sure a counter to, or one-up to the iPhone4 is in the works and if it's anywhere near ready, they will probably announce it or leak it before the 15th when iPhone4 pre-orders start to pull some of the buzz their way stopping some from getting into contracts.

As it stands right now, even though there are stats released, we won't know until the real world tests and reviews are posted comparing batt life, screen, and processor under a side by side multi-app comparison. It will be interesting to see how quickly and smoothly the new iPhone runs with multiple apps. The camera appears to be superior in the new iPhone and the screen possibly as well in all aspects. So once side by side reviews are posted you can factor in your personal preference due to things like "company policies" and pull the trigger. It does look like iPhone is top now with features and specs, but there are still personal pros and cons to each person's needs.

In store we have an Apple 3GS and an HTC Legend

The Legend blows the iPhone away in terms of navigation speed, screen quality (AMOLED), customisation, and overall access.

I love both, myself. I have been considering a Nexus One, but I'm going to pick up an iPhone 4 at launch. Support means a ton to me, and Apple support is generally very good. They also issue updates that flat out work. 2.2 is great, but how many phones are actually going to get that update and how long will it take? There are so many versions of Android floating around that it makes no sense.
I think that iPhone 4 is leveling the field that Android (via HTC) had just recently taken the advantage.

I think it deep down depends on what you are looking for in a phone . The iphone is for the multimedia / screen / applications/ high end/polished savy . The android is for the person who wants to be able to use their phone to the fullest potential, but also doesen't mind the lack of applications/ polished/high end stuff. Put it this way, there are alot more androids out there than iphones but the hardware and software just seem to be better all around with the iphone.

To simplify by above post. Are you a sirloine steak ? ( the iphone 4 G) coz it took longer to make . Or A Mac N ' cheese ? (Android) because they are making android phones like theres no tomorrow .
