Iphone 3gs VS N900 VS Nexus One

I am currently using iphone 3gs with tmobile. Its unlocked obviously. I love it so far, love the apps, love the mp3 player, love the emails. But i hate the fact you cant run more than one app at a time, no 3g for tmobile, and the battery isnt all that.
I keep finding my self looking for a new phone that will keep me excited.
My two choices are N900 or Nexus one, price is not a concern but features are. I dont know anything about android either.

Help anyone?

if you love the apps and music player on the iphone, you are going to be disappointed with android. It's just not as well polished as the iphone. I'm currently using the droid and while it's a decent phone in its own right, it just can't match up to the iphone experience. multitasking is ok, but it's not very well implemented. The phone becomes very sluggish even when only a few apps are open. Also, believe it or not, there is no way to switch between different open apps (even though the phone is touted as multitasking). For some inexplicable reason, the phone lacks multitouch even though it is supposedly implemented into the android os (even the new nexus one doesn't have multitouch). The apps and graphics are mediocre compared to the iphone. Just compare the facebook app for the iphone and android to see the disparity. It is nice to be able to customize the phone but I would take the apps and user experience of the iphone anyday over android. The only reason I don't have the iphone is because I don't want to switch over to ATT from Verizon.
 
Search in Cydia for "Proswitcher"

Gives the iPhone incredible multitasking.

The N900 is a really cool phone for a hardcore geek. It runs a Debian based version of Linux, and all the apps you may know from Linux can be run on there. It is basically a little Linux computer with a 3G based network card. You will get 3G with this phone on T-Mobile, or pretty much anywhere else in Europe etc.

The downside to the N900 is it is not a widely used operating system, and sometimes it can be a Kludge to get it to do what you want. If you like to hack on stuff to get it working this may apeal to you.



The Nexus One is a cool phone which will also give you 3G. The early reviews say it is a nice phone, though nothing more than a small evolutionary step from any other Android phone. It is fast, 3G, and has a nice screen. The Android app market is growing too, though not yet nearly the size of the iPhone one, not even half. Android still reviews as a bit less polished than the iPhone OS.

Basically see if you can try out an Android phone. If you like it, and 3G is important to you, get the Nexus, otherwise, stick with the iPhone.

The only way I'd go to the N900 is if you are pretty geeky and enjoy dicking with your phone a bit as it's a very open operating system. No need to 'Root' or "Jailbreak" it, as it comes from Nokia in this state already.

just downloaded the pro-switcher and backgrounder. Pretty interesting but i hope it wont slow the phone down too much. But it def made it alot better for me.

anathema, i am not geeky at all, so i guess N900 might not work.
I played with a verizon droid, it seemed pretty nice but something about the iphone keeps bringing me back to it.
I might just order nexus one and play with it, if i like it i will keep it, if not i will return it within 14 days. I would just hate to pay $30.00 for 3g internet when i pay 5.99 right now. I guess i am spoiled.

I don't find proswitcher slows the phone down at all since it has lots of memory.
 
I think its too early for the Nexus One, in a year it should be up to where the iphone is today, but in a year, where will the iPhone be?

What is your experience with the ipHone 3gs on T-mobile edge in terms of speed and usability. I am contemplating moving from ATT to T-Mob. Also, how did you get unlimited web with Tzones, do you get overage charges?
 
T-Zones isn't offered anymore. You'll have to get the "Other" or "Shadow" phone web for $10. It's unlimited, and if you do a lot of heavy surfing/downloading music/apps EDGE isn't going to suffice, but for streaming music, occasional browsing or downloading emails and such EDGE is fine.
 
Tmobile edge Is horrible compared to 3g. But then again you get what you pay for. I pay 4x less, and I get speeds 4x less.
But now I use clear 4g, with a clearspot. So I get 4g speeds all the time which now is awsome. But it sux having to carry an extra piece, and wifi kills the battery.
 
Thanks. My needs are mostly push email via exchange and occasional web surf or directions in maps. I was told by T-Mob rep today that if I use iphone with 10 dollar unlimited, I may get charged overage charges with heavy use, is this true. Also, are there specific settings for in iphone for 10 dollar plan.

No, it's a total lie. They don't even have any overage charging in their system. Just go into a T-Mobile store and they will set up your account (tell them you have an unlocked phone at home and want an Even More Plus plan for it, don't specify just to avoid any potential problems) Make sure it's a T-Mobile corporate store.

Maps are just fine on EDGE, especially if you're not using the Sat+Map view. Just change your data APN to internet2.voicestream.com. The option will show up under network when you put in your T-Mobile sim.

Also - threadjacked!! Sooorrry, but Ya.. backgrounding is no problem with a JB'd iPhone. It's one of the first things you should do.
 
The nexus one will probably be similar to the Droid. Android is ok but has a long way to go to catch up to lphone OS. The quality of apps is something I didn't care for on the Droid either. Even though the iPhone 3GS doesn't multi-task, I found it pretty quick switching between apps, where the Hero and the Droid slowed down as will "probably" the nexus one. I always find myself wanting to try the phones out but so far none compete with the iPhone IMO.
 
I don't really experience slowdowns switching between apps in my MyTouch 3G (HTC Magic). Oh and I use a 3rd gen iPod Touch 64gb for comparison as well.
