iPhone 3GS or the iPhone 4?

Okay, my phone contract ends tomorrow and I can upgrade to an iPhone. Which would be a better buy, an iPhone 3GS for $49 or an iPhone 4 for $197. Now, a lot of people would say the 3GS 'cause it's cheaper, but money is no issue so I'm basing my decision on the quality not the cost. So which would be better, a 3GS or a 4, please give me a reason to back up your answer.
 
Honestly, if you can I would wait for the iPhone 5. It will be coming out soon, and then the 3GS and 4 will be old news. If you really can't wait, then you might as well get the 4 because it has more features than the 3GS and will probably be a little faster.
