Is it possible to downgrade this at all?

I want to do 2 things to it, jailbreak it and then possibly change the IMEI. Ive read that to jailbreak it it has to be in version 3.1.3 though because 4.0 wont work to downgrade it.

I may have been misinformed but if not, can somebody please explain how id go about doing this.

You cannot change IMEI. Why do you want to do that?

If you have iOS4 installed, you can downgrade only if you have shsh certificate backup for older version. And baseband will not be downgraded.
 
I just need the phone unlocked to all networks, was told by someone that changing the imei would do that. If theres another way then id like to try that- if you know another way, changing the imei did seem a bit strange to me.


I dont have anything for it thus far, is there a way i can download that shsh file? or get it from someone elses iphone?

Any ideas when the software to actually do it will be released? or if its planning to be released at all- just so i have a rough idea.

I also take it that its impossible to actually downgrade if i havent go any previous backups etc of it?
 
Yes, in the meantime there's a jailbreak available for iOS4 on iPhone 3GS:

a) for devices with old bootrom
b) if you have a shsh backup for firmware 3.1.2 (made before Feb 2010). There's a tutorial, but no single software. The tutorial is only for experienced users. If you have no idea of what shsh means, forget this.
 
Unfortunately i have the new bootrom and no shsh backup, guess ill just have to wait

Since today:
c) new bootrom, no shsh backup, but still running on firmware 3.1.2: upgrade to iOS4 with jailbreak possible
