My husband drives truck long distance and does not eat and sleep on any regular pattern. He will come home after a four day trip exhausted but not want to sleep due to getting work done around the house. He has been experiencing an increase in involuntary "jerking" of his arms and legs which can happen at any time. He sleeps soundly when he sleeps and eats healthy. He is not overweight and works out when home. He has not other health issues. Any thoughts?

Maybe low potassium, magnesium deficiency and/or dehydration from the long drives. Stress, stomach pills (prilosec, pepcid etc) can cause magnesium deficency. Your doctor can check his electrolyte balance to see if there are any problems.

There is a medical term, Benign Fasciculation Syndrome, that doctors use when they don't know the exact cause of muscle twitching.

Does he take decongestants such as Sudefed? Those will cause twitching. I had to go to a neurologist for the same problem and we figured out it was my allergy medicine. When I stopped the Sudefed the twitches went away. Also caffeine will do that. Good luck! I hope you can get it figured out!
