Investing in Spain, where to begin?

There is a company in Spain that has a couple of chain retail stores in a city. What I would like to do is open a branch of the same store in another city, I have already obtained the companys permission to do so, but I'm very puzzled about where to start as far as paperwork go. I called the embassy in my country of residence but they told me I had to register the company and such before I can apply for work/residence permit, and suggested I hire an attorney to do all the paperwork for me. But seeing as I have a visa, I'd rather do it myself, if it is possible.

I am a non-EU citizen, holding a Schengen visa, allowing me to stay in Spain for 90 days. I will head out there next month to start the paperwork procedure but all the online research has led me to more and more questions.
What I would like to know is, once I land in Spain, where should I begin? What can I achieve once I'm there regarding paperwork? Should I register myself first or the company first? What are the requirements to do either? Whens the right time to travel back to apply for a residence/work permit from the Spanish embassy? Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere?

I'd appreciate some insight from anyone who has knowledge and/or experience in the field,
Thanks so much for reading and trying to help out and happy holidays :)
