I just had to buy 600 shares of ford last week i dont think i will lose my ass it will be a short term investment for me maybe just double my money quick, but your absolutely right the big 3 are not going anywhere. I deal with td ameritrade there are the best 9.99 per trade no hidden fees and no minimum to get the 9.99 deal they work with you great a great web sight I checked out them all and they were the best. good luck and if you have any further questions feel free to contact me at www. I know about a bit about 'penny stocks', and never invest more than you can afford to lose.....

I have a hunch that the government won't let any of the Big Three collapse. If I were to buy, say, one hundred shares of Ford, how much commission should I expect to pay? And where is the best place to buy it? (broker, bank, etc?).
Or should I buy gumballs and a couple comic books and ride out the economy on a hillside somewhere?

I'm not a fan of the auto companies at this point. There is virtually no equity left in those companies. Think about when Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac got bailed out; their shareholders were wiped out.

Look at how much debt these guys have. If the government steps in and saves them, they still have a long way to go. Even their bond holders are getting scared. Their bonds are selling at under 0.20 on the dollar.

It's not impossible for them to bounce back, but their reputation is poor, their management is poor, and they are out of money.

I think it's the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, a man on 3rd and they're down by 6 runs.

I would stay away from Ford common, If your looking to invest in an automotive or alternative car co. Look at QTWW. They are listed on the nasdaq. Its a start up on the west coast. It trades around .80 or so. Open a Scottrade account with 500 bucks and do it!
