Introduction Thread

Hi,
I'm Martin. I work at Motowheels.
I've been riding Ducatis since the early 90's.
We've been collecting a bunch of parts for our 1098 project bike which we hope to see by mid-February so we can start building it. Hope to learn more about what people are doing to their bikes.

Hi my name is Stefan,
I'm original from Germany, but moved to Chicago in 2003 to work on machines which the company I worked for in Germany sold here.
When I changed my German Drivers license over to an Illinois DL, I suddenly had also the Bike license...
Well two weeks later I had a brand new CBR600RR next to my Desk at work ( I had no Garage back than), I loved the bike and did some changes to it like exhaust, power commander and the normal stuff like Windshield and co. By the end of that year I had some pretty good times and I looked for something new and bought the new CBR1000RR. I love that bike and made some changes, which I made it stick out under all the other bikes I put on a Arrow GP Exhaust, Power Commader, HID Headlights and Helios, black swingarm...
Before Christmas I looked for a '07 MV F41000 but when I saw the 1098 I knew that's what I want... And well here I am waiting for my black 1098S.
Stefan

Greetings, I'm Greg from Indianapolis, soon to be the site of the second MotoGP in the States! Oops, you didn't hear that!
I've been riding bikes for 31 years. I raced middle and heavy weight production class bikes in the WERA series back in the late '70's and '80's. I also ran the AMA Superbike series in the early '80's on a HRC CB750R under the banner of "The Superbike Factory" out of the Indy area.
I took a break from bikes for the past 10 years, just entertaining myself with a lot of ice hockey and borrowing bikes from my friend's dealership occasionally.
Last year, I got the itch to get another bike and picked up a '05 Honda 919 from my old sponsor's dealership. As you can see from my list of "toys", I've gone off the deep end with the addition of the two CBR1000RR's, the YZF R1 50th Anniversary and I still don't know why, the little NSF100! Could this be another midlife crisis!
After the first of the year, I was about ready to put a deposit on a '07 MV Agusta F4 1000 when I ran across some info on the new Ducati 1098. When I saw the Tricolore, well just like Germany up north, the MV lost out and I'll get the third Tricolore from Commonwealth Motorcycles in Louisville, KY!
This will be my first Ducati as well as first twin. I guess I have to blame the guys at Spectrum Motorsports in Irving, CA for letting me demo a 999S last summer; I caught the Ducati bug!
Anyway, this looks to become a great site for 1098 enthusiasts and dang is it cold here in Indy right now!

I thought I was done with sportbikes. . .until the 1098 showed up. Damn. She's so gorgeous, a temptress that captured my heart and my soul. I'm RJ, an art director in Los Angeles. Thank goodness for an understanding wife for letting me have this affair with the Italian beauty.

I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to sign up. I'm from SJ/ Philly area. Ordered my 1098 standard about a month ago. This is my 3rd Duc. I currently own an 06 749 Dark and a 07 S4R Monster. Can't wait to take delivery. Should be in the first two weeks of March.

Oldracer27 I fell in love with the 06 CBR1000RR when it was first announced but I am now becoming seduced by the 1098. What do you think of the 06 CBR1000RR and do think it is worth shelling out the extra for the ducati (base model)? or should I just save a few thousand and get the CBR?

I was thinking that if i got the CBR and invested the extra couple thousand to hopping it up it might be a better bike than the ducati. I dunno have never followed ducati prior to this and the 1098 just seems so different

Well I suppose it doesn't take a genius to guess my name is John. I used to have a 996 some years back, but as those who know from mvagusta.net are aware, my first love is that other purveyor of red Italian exotica MV Agusta and the 996 went to pastures new when a friend of mine made me an offer I couldn't refuse when I was looking to buy a F4.

As the F4 is an out and out sports bike, my long suffering wife decided after 1 pillion ride to never venture on the back of it again (can't blame her really), so when I was looking for a 1000 F4, I decided to opt for the monoposto version. Anyway back to Ducati's, Last summer, I bought a VFR800 Honda for commuting to work and the odd touring weekend (at least that was the plan). But whilst the Honda was a very competent bike in all respects, it lacked a certain something (call it soul if you like) and when I spied a very tidy ST4s in a local dealers window, a quick conversation, a shake of hands and I took ownership of what is basically a touring 996.

I believe I've got the best of both worlds now, the MV is my twisties scratching toy whilst the Duke can cope with commuting to work and the weekend touring duties whilst also being no slouch itself and as I mentioned on another thread here, I just fitted a pair of Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's to the Duke and it really handles superbly now.

As to the 1098, I would love to own one as well as the current two incumbents of my garage, I wouldn't swap the MV for one though I must admit.
