My poor cat has been hit by a car. Shes going to be ok thankfully, but will need quite a bit of recovery time, and im scared to let her out of the house for the toilet while she's still sore and slow. Is it possible to train a middle aged cat how to use a litter tray? Does anyone have any tips or experience they can share? Thanks in advance :)

yes, most litter will give off a smell that cats can only smell which it loo.
but it does not smell to us.. so you should be fine as long as u show her where it it is she will be fine.

Keep the litter tray next to the door or cat flap that the cat uses most often, as most cats like to get as close to outside as they can if they can't go out.
Also agree with the answer that suggests playing with the cat after meals and moving the litter round in the tray.

Cats usually do their business after a meal or a nap. So take note of these times. Before feeding take 10-15 minutes to play with your pet.

Allow about 15 minutes for the meal and clear up leftovers after that period. When the meal is finished, play with your cat for another 10-15 minutes, this time somewhere near the litter box.

Lead your cat to the box. Move the litter around with your hand to intrigue the cat with the texture of the litter, inviting it to step into it.

If she is not let out, she will probably remember the litter box from when she was a kitten.
