This interview contains a few interesting points some of the members here may find worthy of discussion. For me, the biggest would probably be this:

Who does he think he's kidding?

I was also surprised to know that American Dad sometimes beats the Simpsons. I'm not too sure what he means by the All in the Family comparison. If he means it'll be remembered as controversial, it already is, right? If he means he wants it to be remembered as groundbreaking... Well, things don't become groundbreaking in retrospect.

Exciting interview. No complaints. Well, one complaint. The Simpsons is itself in name only. At this point we're just churning it out because Fox wants its name to get them money. As far as material goes, American Dad is better than Simpsons and Family Guy right now. I still like them all, but I'm just tossing some opinions out there.

Interesting, are we reaching for ideas that have already been done elsewhere? Star Trek reminds me of Futurama, and Peter's ancestry sounds like...well Family Guy. That's been touched upon at least once or twice. I mentioned that in the talkback for the last Family Guy episode. Well the interview sounds solid anyway, so I'm looking forward to everything. Family Guy is mostly a dumber show (started out that way anyway) but Seth is very smart when it comes to TV History and TV culture. This is one of his babies and he does very well.

Blue Harvest Part 2! Okedokey! Looks like Chris can yell at Peter once again because Robot Chicken beat you to it once again!! lol!! Ah well, I can't wait for both.

What's up with the backlash this guy has been receiving of late?

He seems like a funny guy... and an amazingly talented voice actor to boot.

To be honest, I always thought Seth was a cool guy, especially during the whole "Cartoon Wars" fiasco where he didn't stoop to Matt and Trey's level and call them out.

I don't know what's up with the backlash. That's why I spoke highly of him (in complete honesty, like I do with everything, whether it helps me or hurts me). As for Trey and Matt, well I need to have a talk with them about that. And on that topic I speak very highly of them and their work as well.

Having such hatred like that AND being responsible for one of the greatest comedy show's in the literal Universe for it's versatility and sense of humor just don't compute.

I have nothing against him, but more recent episodes of Family Guy have been really obnoxious with a "We're right and you're wrong" attitude. I've heard he's had less direct involvement, so that may be a factor.

Well, the political mindset behind Family Guy is not hard to read, and I find it quite insulting to watch (especially the religious material, which is always done from a really mean-spirited point of view), even though as a liberal I probably agree with the man of a lot of issues. I'm very accomodating of satire, and I like much of Family Guy's humor, but McFarlane seems unable to not be a ****** when working on the show (or corrall a writer's room full of ******s on the show), and it ultimately turned me off about a year after the relaunch began. Ultimately the Simpsons will have the better legacy, despite the state of the show right now, because it won't seem half as unpleasant to watch over the years, and it actually features *gasp* a small bit of character development. And I'm shocked that South Park is still on the air, but I never got how people found that funny.

American Dad isn't that offensive, but it's almost an exact lift from Family Guy, minus shifting some character traits around and splitting Stewie into the alien and the fish. It'd probably be fine if they hadn't also renewed Family Guy at the same time, but now it's just redundant and I'd prefer if they gave some other talented animation team a crack at that time slot.

I thought this was a good interview, like you all I don't understand the backlash either, and I think the show can do well without so many pop culture references, the recent episodes have been great without them, so I think season 7 and seasons beyond should be excellent (as well as the movie).

People hate seeing anyone besides themselves have success. Especially considering the fact, Family Guy was nowhere near a popular show seven years ago. It almost did the impossible and came back from the dead.

All in the Family is one of his favorite programs and his hope for American Dad was that it would be another All in the Family.

If you wonder why some hate Seth, re-watch last week's Family Guy episode for hints.
