Internet works, but i cannot connect to game downloaders, itunes store, etc?

i just had my comcast service installed today with a arris wbm760 modem(no router). i can connect to webpages fine and download speeds(only from my browser/torrents) are fast, but thats all that works. my problem is that i cant download my steam games, start the itunes store, or anything like this. if you play online games, its like starting the client while you are not connected to the internet, but i am connected. thanks for any advice
