my parents frequently travel out of the country to the philipines, and the nation of samoa...i understand that they are all on GSM...i'm wanting to buy them a phone to travel with but am unsure of exactly what type they will need...i've been told a tri-band, or quad-band...but am just unsure of any of it...any suggestions of ideal phones would be great...thanks!!!
 
your best bet would be to get a quad band phone. For example motorola's v600,v3, v3i, and v195. if the phone is only going to be used in the counrties you mentioned then you could also get a tri-band just make sure it is 900/1800/1900 instead of 850/1800/1900.
 
From what I can see it looks like you're on Verizon. That won't work, so you'll have to go with a GSM carrier and get a world phone like the poster above me said.
