international roaming data charges

i was in brasil and i was making calls from there. i knew the charges would be ridiculous (i thought i had seem $.69/min, only to find out it was $2.99). but i was wondering about my texting and email/web.
texting is .35 for sending and .15 for receiving. fine. no problem.
email - didnt have much of a choice. if my fone was ever turned on with my tmo sim card, emails would just pour in.

i come back home and check my bill. regularly i pay about $82. then i read the extra charges for international roaming. for my phone calls, it showed me the minutes. for texting it showed me how many messages. when i went looking for the data usage, couldn't find anything. so i called tmo and asked if they can check how much i used because i wanted to make sure i was getting charged the correct amount. 20 mins on hold, to have the operator come back and say that it's $15/mb. great. but how many mb's did i use? she has no idea. her manager has no idea. so i bluntly asked her, "so since there's no way to track my mb's used, tmo COULD charge me whatever they wanted to since theres no way of you to see how many mb's i used?" obviously her answer was no. it would get caught when they get audited.

so now i'm stuck with a $232 bill that i'm not even sure i should be charged for.
if anyone knows where i can check all this information to make sure i'm getting charged properly, please let me know

I would start here:

http://www.t-mobile.com/International/RoamingOverview.aspx?tp=Inl_Tab_RoamWorldwide

but it should also be in your My-TMOBILE

good luck, international roaming charges suck

Similar thing happened to me when I went to Cancun. I requested to have international data and voice but my bill was around $250. The problem was that international data ($30) was not put on my device. Luckily it was a company device and not my fault that when I requested international data that they forgot to put it on.

They have a way to track it, the rep just did not know where to look. As previously mention should be a data usage section on the bill as well as on my tmobile.com. Next time ask for BB support and they will be able to tell you how many mb were used and such. Similar instance when i went down to TJ, Mexico. 2 Things to get past paying 15.00 per MB.

1. If you add the BB international roaming feature on the account for an extra 19.99 it gives you unlimited email sending and recieving. You still have to pay for surfing the web or BBM per mb but you will pay a flat rate for emails and not get stuck when that yahoo friend of yours sends the email with the 300MB attachment 4 times in a row to you when he knows you are out of the country because he had to show you the rad new bike he got............dorkboy. Done with that rant.

2. If you do not want to chance getting any data charges while outside of the country, before you leave the USA go into menu, options, mobile network and turn data services off. MMS, Email, Internet, BBM, and IM will not work at all while you are out of the country.

Hope it helps.

thanks for the help!
i actually found the data usage on the site.
just sucks that the operator and supervisor couldn't find it when i called them

Eddie, Do you know if $19.99 International Roaming applies to ATT?

I spoke with a couple of CS reps and they did not seem up on it as an option.

Thanks

There is an international data roaming option on AT&T. It used to be a feature, but I hear that its a plan now and therefore impacts your contract. That's just hearsay as I haven't tried it yet.

Just got back from the Dominican Republic on Saturday.

Signed up for T-mob's international service to enable me to use my email, 19.99. I forgot to sign up for World Class Service though, so the email didn't work for the first day. I purchased internet access for $5/30 min from the hotel and went to T-mob's site and signed up for World Class, the email started working right away. I also was able to get text messages. At one point, about 3 days in, the email stopped working. I went back to the website and unselected the int'l service, then selected it again and all was well.

I used the phone about 6 times for a total of 1minute each. So far, when I looked up my account, I used a total of $21 extra services.

While I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop, it looks like I was able to keep in touch via email, texts and telephone for a minumum amount. Oh, by the way, I got my bb unlocked so I could purchase a sim card in dr, but never could find a store from which to purchase it, and didn't need it anyway!

I'm familiar with the blackberry "unlimited international" plan, but what's "international data"? I'll be in Europe (mostly Germany and Denmark) for four weeks. I will definitely activate International Roaming and "blackberry international unlimited" for email. Is there anything else I can do in advance to make browsing possible, or less than $0.01 per KB?

I was anticipating some google maps related data usage, which unfortunately will often be used in situations where a wi-fi connection is challenging to procure. I guess I'll just need to be careful!
