Hi...well where to begin im a 24 yr old female...no known illnesses other than a possible fibromyalgia one...that the doctors are now second guessing...yet i do have a gallbladder that doesn't empty correctly which is probably why i have this upper right quadrant pain in my abdomen...not as bothersome anymore though...but lately i've been having this body vibrations when im trying to fall asleep...its usually at night...but also if i want to take a nap during the day it happens...its not painful...but when i get it it feels like i've been startled and my stomach hurts...then i feel the quivering...i don't know if it is heart related i don't get the feeling that it is...but i don't know...it can happen on reverse too...i feel the quivers right as im falling asleep then the ache in my abdomen and i feel jumpy...jittery...i don't drink coffee...i have been drinking chamomille tea before bed time...but i've done this in the past as well with no problems...i just don't know what it could be...it is extremely bothersome...i can't fall asleep...it takes a long time for me to finally sleep i guess once my mind is just too worn out...once i do fall asleep i don't wake up with quivers...my blood pressure is always normal and my heart rate does increase sometimes when it happens but i don't know if its because it freaks me out...like i said its like im being startled all of a sudden...i have had this in the past...but i never gave it much thought until now that it won't go away...please if you know something about this let me know...i would really like to figure this out...i will be seeing my doctor on the 1st to follow up on my gallbladder issue...and review results of upper GI and colonoscopy...which are more than likely normal...my doc calls me if anything of concern shows up and he hasn't so i think everything is good on that end...i will ask him about this quivering but for now i'd like some feedback...thanx.

I have this, the internal muscle vibrations when lying down or at rest. My doctor too says she has never heard of it. Mine is persistant and has gotten worse. It to me feels like I have low blood sugar but I do not. If anyone knows what it could be please post a reply. Pamlr

I get this but only when I am waking from a nap in the afternoon (never at night or in the morning). My whole body feels like I am vibrating. I also feel startled.

I believe that mine is related to my anxiety. It seems to happen more often when I am in a stressful situation like my mind gears must be going at top speed while I am asleep. I just had a complete physical a month ago and there would be no physical reason for this to be happening to me.

When I wake up from the nap, the mental sensation I have is that I over-slept, something is going on that I need to know about (even though I am not on a time table nor does anyone even have to be in the house when this happens) and also have the sensation of being extremely hungry (I do have hypoglycemia - low blood sugar).

Perhaps it is low blood sugar combined with anxiety? It is annoying but has never been anything I felt was serious enough to seek help for as it goes away as soon as I get up and walk around.

Let me know what you find out.

I have had this for 2+ years. It is scary! For 2 years I have been told it was anxiety. Well, I just found out a couple of weeks ago that my ferritin is very low and that I am iron deficient. I did have 2 cections, fibroid tumors, nursed 2 babies, and 4 miscarriages so it does make sense. I am scheduled to see a GI doc next week to rule out any gastro issues. Anyway, I have several odd symptoms and was sure I had some major disease like MS or something. I am hoping getting my iron back up will help. I have read online about anemia and iron deficiency and all of my symptoms match. Hmm. Oh yes, you can be very iron deficient (low ferritin) and still not be anemic (yet). Worth asking to have your ferritin checked. Just a simple blood draw. Good luck!

yeah...it feels like it could be anxiety...i've never been checked for low blood sugar...but i'll ask the doc...i didn't experience the quivers last night...i don't feel any different in anxiety...so i don't understand...thankyou for ur reply.

I've also experieced this, when I lay down to sleep....but usually when I'm really, really tired physically and mentally. But it makes me scared...cos the quivering's inside....it goes away after I eat well and take time to have a good rest. Hope you're better now...

thanx for ur reply...today i had i went to the doctor's office and i told him about the quivers...he said he had never heard of such a thing...he listened real closely to my heart...took my pulse on my neck...listening all around...said my heart sounds perfect...says it could be related to my meds...didn't mention anxiety probably cause im on meds occasionally for anxiety...however today im really exhausted from swimming aerobics...and i can feel some vibrations upon laying down...odd very odd...but doc is not concerned...i do feel shaky though...like if i was low on sugar..but i have been eating well...and drinking well...like u said probably just from being fatigued and stressed....;)

well thankyou all for ur replies...my vibrations have come and gone...seems like a never ending cycle...i told my doctor about them but he doesn't know what to make of them...my holter monitor came back with only SVT's which i'm seeing a cardio for on the 25th...lately i've had the vibrations again on days in which i've been to my water aerobics...i do continue to feel anxious...but i think its anxiety brought on from these symptoms...i really dislike the idea of sleeping since i can't get a good night sleep because of these hateful vibrations...i wonder if we'll ever really figure out what the source of this symptom is...i am on a beta blocker very low dosage...but this doesn't seem to help...maybe it isn't heart related...even though i feel my heart rate goes up when they happen...but it also doesn't feel like an out of control beat...well i'll keep you all updated...thanx.

Oh it's so nice to hear other people get this.
They really should give it a name or something. Makes it easier to deal with.
It's so frustrating, some days it happens every 30 seconds!
I tend to notice it a bit more when I do exercise (I play tennis 4 times a week)
Also a lot of the time when I'm trying to sleep and I'm anxious!
I call dibs on the name of it.
It is now called the Stefi twitch.
