My car seems to do one of five things:
1) Starts fine
2) Starts, but seems to hesitate, like for a second I think it's not going to start, but then it does
3) Starts fine, but squeaks briefly when it does
4) Doesn't start. I don't know the difference between cranking and turning over, but it doesn't start. It sounds like it wants to start, like in option #2, but never quite gets there. Will eventually start, usually on the second or third try.
5) Today, it wouldn't start, when I turned the key, is sounded sort of like option #4, but was extremely quiet, could hardly hear it, and then it went silent. Seemed like a battery issue, and called a friend for a jump, but after about 10 minutes of trying it finally started, without the jump and I got home. Now it's reverted back to option #3.
